英国硕士开题报告如何撰写How to write the proposal
Introduction
In this section you should introduce the subject area, provide the context for the proposed study and highlight the relevance of this research within the broader subject area, meaning that you should show that what you are planning is not something in isolation but related to the general knowledge available today in the topic area. Thus, you must be familiar with previous work by others before you, meaning more recent and early work You should indicate why your research question is important and why it is worthy of a thesis project.
You should try to address some of the following typical questions:
What is the problem?
Is the problem of current interest? To whom – you (if basic research) or to another person or organization ( often applied research)?
Why is this question important and worth studying?
Why are you interested in the topic area?
II Research Question
In this part you should indicate, clearly and concisely, the purpose of the study and outline the key research question(s). This part should answer the following questions: What are the aims and objectives of your work? You should also indicate the field of research: industry, companies, country, period, etc.
III Literature Review & Relevance of the literature to your proposed work
The purpose of this section is to show that you are aware of significant work in the field. You provide a brief survey of the literature that summarizes what you and (we – the academics and others) know and what we do not yet know about your particular topic. By doing so, you can demonstrate how much you know about current state of knowledge in the subject area and your understanding of current research. You cannot begin to fill the gap, or plug a hole in the area of knowledge, if you do not know, what is already known, and what we do not know at this point. Clearly you have to access the literature, study it and arrive at some temporary or provisional conclusions, that can suggest wht you could do in your research project.
IV Research methodology
Under this section you indicate the type of research method you intend to use (quantitative, qualitative or a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods). You should also define the rationale for the selection of participants, methods of data collection (e.g. interviewees/informants,survey, focus groups, interviews) and method of analysis. Thinking about analysis is important; there is nothing more terrible than collecting data or information which you cannot analyse. If you are interviewing people, you should use a voice-recorder. The recording should be transcribed into text. Both recording and transcripts should be made available for checking by supervisor. If the language used is other than Dutch or English, certified translation should be made available. All data collected must be preserved and provided to EPBS.
Access participants in the research (respondents/interviewees). Please state how you will gain access to participants.
You should also include a statement about what is included/excluded, so that there will be no misunderstanding of any kind later.
V Time-Activity plan
Give an approximate indication of the activities, their start dates and end dates. Thus the first activity is completing this proposal. You cannot begin until your proposal is approved.
VI References
You should provide an initial list of references and they must conform to the Publications Manual of the American Psychological Association. Once your proposal is approved, you should continue to monitor the literature, just in case some new work relevant to your project is published.
