Data Collection and Analysis Coursework
Assessment will comprise:
1) Individual essay using interview data analysis with Nvivo8. [50%]

1. Individual Essay (SH) [50%]
‘Coursework question: ‘Which lecture room features (e.g. layout, seating, lighting) do students at Loughborough University prefer and why?’
• Each student should collect interview data from 5 participants in 10 minute interviews (max duration).

• Import the rich text file into NVivo, code, produce final interpretations related to the research question

Why you selected the participants (based on at least 2 sampling theories)
2. Method [25%]
Including interview schedule development/prompts (e.g. pilot and iterations between interviews)
Information/consent form (template on Learn)
3. Results/analysis/NVivo [50%]
Iterative analysis using NVivo with coding stripes, memos, reports as appendices to show how your thinking changed during analysis (expect at least 2 iterations for each interview)
Final thematic analysis with NVivo print out with a model/diagram (from NVivo or other software e.g. Word, PowerPoint)

In the text
• If you make a comment from a published work or quote directly you should reference the author(s) at the end of the sentence (Hignett, 2005). There is no need to put a full stop before the reference – it is part of the sentence.
• It is only appropriate to put Hignett (2005), if you are saying: Hignett (2005) found that…
• If you are referencing a paper with two authors both names should be listed (Hignett and Griffiths, 2005).
• If there are more than two authors, do not list all the names. Just include the first author and use et al. (Hignett et al, 2005).
• Ensure that you use the same references that you have listed in the reference chapter, and be careful that you quote the same year both within the text and in the list of references.
• Make sure that you spell names correctly.
2. Questionnaire Analysis (NS) [50%]
Coursework question: “To what extent does the university shuttle bus service meet the needs of students, staff and visitors to the campus?”
• Students will be provided with a questionnaire which will be used for data collection.
• Each student to distribute the questionnaire to 10 respondents.
• Each student to input responses to spreadsheet provided by NS.
• NS compiles all questionnaire data into one spreadsheet.
• The data obtained by all questionnaire respondents (from all groups) will be distributed to each module participant as an email attachment.
• The analysis coursework specification will be formulated around this same time and will also be distributed as an email attachment. It will contain instructions for processing the data in the spreadsheet, questions about the resulting SPSS output and questions about the content of the analysis lectures.
• Answers to questions based on the output of software (Statistical Package for Social Sciences, SPSS) used for that analysis and on information covered by lectures and prescribed reading, approx. 3000 words plus appendices where appendices have a maximum of 10 pages.#p#分页标题#e#
If your own computer has a Microsoft Windows operating system and you would like to use it for this part of the course, you will have the option to install SPSS on it. You will be able to use it for a year under the University licence, free of charge to yourself. If you cannot do this, or do not wish to, then you will have free use of the Departmental computers which have SPSS installed.
