personal statement该怎么写？在申请英国本科院校时，申请者除了要在雅思、A-LEVEL等考试中力争好成绩，也需要在准备personal statement时认真细致。personal statement作为申请海外名校的敲门砖，可以让考官对你产生兴趣并继续查看你的作品集，甚至有的同学因为自身优秀的作品集和personal statement竟可以免去学校面试环节，直接收到学校offer。

每一篇优秀的personal statement都是个人经历的回顾，我们经常说，能打动自己的往往能打动别人，所以用心写是最好的方法哦。

1）下面我们看一下伦敦政经学院的Personal Statement

The quality of an applicant's personal statement is very important at LSE. The School does not interview for places so this is an applicant’s only opportunity to demonstrate they are a good fit for the course. Applicants should consult the advice here, as well as advice from UCAS when preparing to complete this section of their application.

Please note that writing a personal statement following the guidelines below does not guarantee an offer of admission. Personal statements are looked at on a comparative basis and there is a great deal of competition for places at LSE.

LSE不对学生进行面试，所以PS是你唯一的机会让LSE去了解你这个人，去了解你是不是适合这个专业。LSE建议申请者去做适当的咨询，或询问那些曾经申请过LSE的学长学姐来获取经验

2）LSE对于书写PS都有哪些细节建议和要求：

1. 要求申请者了解LSE开设的各个专业和项目

在开始之前，校方要求申请者先去了解LSE开设的各个专业和项目，并且结合自己的兴趣和过往经历来确定自己对哪个领域有兴趣，在哪个方向有动力和优势。在personal statement写作中，申请者应当展示出自己对所申请专业的兴趣和强势之处。

2、PS中想申请的专业至少占80%www.ukassignment.org

校方强烈建议你在PS中主要讨论你想申请的专业是什么，你为什么要申请这个专业。校方建议80%以上的内容应当是聊学术的，而不要编什么家庭悲惨故事，或者讲什么鸡汤励志啊什么的。

校方说你可以提到你经历过的活动，参加过的比赛等，但你写出来的经历应当和你要申请的专业比较贴合，能够证明你的能力或者动力。

所以，同学们，在申请这个专业之前，请先认真地浏览一下官方网站的细节介绍，看一看这个专业的课程设置。或者有条件的话，多搜一下该专业的宣传视频，所承办的活动视频等，全方位地了解，再结合自己的经历去写自己的个人陈述。

3、兴趣爱好、个人经历不要超过PS的20%！

关于课外活动，LSE是这么规定的：

如果你要夸你体育啊，艺术啊，志愿者啊，学生会啊什么的，请不要让篇幅超过20%！

4、LSE给出的错误事例

"I have always dreamed of coming to LSE since I was young. It has been a dream of mine to study at this institution, which is well renowned for its social science courses.

I am currently studying History, English and Business and Management at Higher level and Italian, Math and Chemistry at Standard level in the International Baccalaureate and feel that these subjects are providing me with a solid background for university study.

I want to study History because I want to be a world class Historian and feel that this degree will help me. I am especially interested in Ancient History, particularly the history concerning the Roman Empire. I am fascinated by the way in which the empire was run, and the events that led to its downfall.

"I was the captain of the school football team, and this has taught me the importance of working together as a team and allowed me to priorities my time between my studies and football practice. I feel that this has provided me with the experience to successfully balance my academic and social life, and I plan to continue this balance whilst at university.

It is my dream to become an alumnus of the School, and I am sure that as I am the top student of my class, you will offer me a place."

LSE的点评：

1.申请者指出了自己对history有兴趣，但没有写明白自己做了什么努力，参加了什么活动，做了什么研究。相反，申请者说了说自己在足球队很厉害，很显然，这对申请历史专业没什么用。

2.申请者特别提到了LSE是个好学校，但好像这并不能完全说明什么，还有点浪费纸。

3.申请者特别费劲地列举了自己学的所有IB课程名字，但很显然这些课程名字是可以在qualification界面里面查到的，申请者这是在浪费书写空间。PS的内容是应该陈述自己为什么选择意向专业，并且陈述自己的实力和动力的。

3）下面我再通过几个问题来帮助同学们深入思考一下：

1. 你为什么选择了这个专业？是什么吸引了你？这个专业是否有一个特定的小领域特别吸引你？这个领域发生过什么大事没有？你对于这些事是怎么看的？

2. 除了你的校内课业学习，你是否有别的课程爱好？自学过什么别的课程么？或者读过什么书？你上网或者现场听过演讲没有？演讲是关于什么话题的？你从读过的书里，听过的演讲里，感觉最有意思的话题是什么？

3. 你的这些课外阅读，听演讲，看视频等经历有没有让你的某些校内课业成绩变得更突出？或者因此参加过什么比赛？比赛经历让你学到了什么？

4. 你有没有在某个感兴趣的领域工作过？或者兼职？

5. 你是否参观过某个大学？或者参加过夏校？夏令营冬令营？

其次，让我们学习一下大神是如何写 personal statement

首先，它的篇幅被要求必须是比较短的

UCAS系统的要求是1000-4000个字符，大概也就是1000个英文单词左右，有的大学要求只能写500-800字。

所以，各位同学写出来的PS应当是再三经过推敲的，如果不确定语言够不够简练，那就一定要多咨询咨询，反复改写几次。

其次，英国本科阶段的个人陈述信的绝大部分内容被要求用来陈述你的学术方向，你的学术动机，学术能力等。大家切忌大写特写学生会里面怎么怎么样了，或者你当志愿者去马拉松比赛送水了什么的。

还有，选哪个大学只是个开头，更重要的是去深入了解你要申请的这个专业。去了解这个专业的课程设置是如何安排的，去了解老师们教授们，还要多多思考自己的兴趣爱好，自己读过的书。

不要在PS里面去夸学校排名高，学术声誉好，或者变其它方法夸，这些是没有意义的！不要在PS里弄虚作假，写一些虚假的奖项之类的。

不要在开头铺垫太多，这不是essay question，这是statement。

Your application form may be the first contact you have with us, so your personal statement is your opportunity to explain why you believe you're a strong candidate for a particular course. A well-presented personal statement can help you to secure an interview, so make the most of the opportunity to tell us why you stand out from the crowd.

Content 文章内容应该包括哪些方面？

Research the course you're interested in thoroughly, identify the skills and interests required to study it and use this information to write your personal statement.

What are your interests in the subject area? Why do you want to come and study the course?

Why do you think you’re the ideal applicant for this course? Include any skills or work you have done that supports this.

Why would you like to study at UCA? How do you think you’ll benefit from studying at UCA?

What is it particularly about UCA and the course here which appeals to you?

What are your future career goals, where do you hope to be at the end of the course and in the future, and how will studying at UCA help you to achieve these goals?

Remember to relate the subjects you a recurrently studying, or have studied, to the course you are applying to and how you’ll apply the skills you have learnt.

Think about any experiences you’ve had and explain how they are relevant to the course you’re applying to.

Include any relevant work experience you may have done in the subject area you’re looking to study.

If you don’t have a lot of experience in your chosen subject area, think about transferable skills you may have obtained from other experiences you’ve had, such as problem-solving, teamwork, project management, listening, organization and time management skills.

Show how you’re a critical thinker and demonstrate how you can complete tasks independently with an analytical mindset.

Don’t forget to include any hobbies or interests you have outside of studying and, if relevant, relate this to any skills you’ve learnt which could be used in your studies. This will also show that you can balance your education with your social life.

Structure 文章结构怎样安排？

Structure your personal statement so that it flows naturally and is easy for you to manage. It’s a good idea to have a beginning, middle and end.

The beginning should be about you and why you want to study the course – this doesn’t have to include anything about your current/previous studies.

The middle is the main section and should include any experiences, previous studies and skills that make you suitable for the course.

The end is the final section that includes any other activities you’ve done outside of your studies. 

Check your spelling, grammar and punctuation and make sure your writing has good sentence and paragraph structure. Ensure everything you say relates to the course you’re applying to and your chosen career path and try not to repeat yourself.
