Actually as challenging as life is, we are quite wise to take double roles in cater to diverse requirements of social development. Just like me, my current work has informed me that apart from my background of Metallurgical Engineering, I should seek another advanced study in finance according to practical demands in work. Every day, a white collar office girl bustling in and out of a high-grade office building among a dark mass of decent handbags and leather shoes, is deeply longing for another journey of college life. And just this moment, your program of finance waves its wings at me.A business supervisor, and later a financial practitioner working in RGL GROUP Co., Ltd., a comprehensive metallurgy corporation, I must own relevant knowledge in both finance and original major of Metallurgical Engineering.
At the very beginning, I was the business supervisor in business segment, having eyes on work of company iron ore import, before I took charge of financial work. Inquiry, offer, contract drafting, L/C opening, documents transaction, ships renting, money settlement, all these were the daily duties I needed to monitor. Meanwhile, acting as a capable business supervisor, I was required to provide convinced references for leaders’ decision-making through selecting useful information and arranging documentations, to distinguish the market fluctuations for managers by gathering offer information of customers, as well as to make analytical report aiming at monthly import data of major ports from customs. Regardless of burdensome amount of work, I could always finish all my tasks with my high sense of responsibility as well as working passions, even without any mistake. As we all known, recent years have seen a notorious financial crisis all around the world which has given rise to a rocketing price of iron ore and a negative influence on company business. Through painstaking negotiations, I clearly realized our disadvantages as well as the importance of strategic partner. And the systematical financial reform and pricing measures are also greatly in need to be adopted in practice. All these lay an emphasis on financial backgrounds and strategies. Therefore I firmly set finance as my next destination.
However, due to an accidental opportunity, I was appointed to work in financial department where I began to unfold a brand new journey concerned with finance. There I am mainly responsible for series of financial issues such as company’s checking line of credit and loan interest rate & deadline in different banks when opening a letter of credit, choosing the best solution to save financing cost as possible, and winning over more favorable credit limit through negotiating with financing departments of banks. With the business expansion of company, it requires more professional investing analysis and management to achieve financialisation of iron ore market. Meanwhile I have more than ever realized that what significance of making acquainted with international financial rules means to domestic steel industry, which also more strengthens my determination to pursue a more advanced study in finance.
My years’ working experience has more than once dragged my memories to my college times. As early as an undergraduate majoring Metallurgical Engineering who ranks top 1 in China in Beijing University of Science and Technology, I have laid a solid theoretical foundation and cultivated outstanding capabilities in study as well as research. During my college life never do I slack myself in my study, listening carefully and finishing assignments independently. My efforts finally paid off- I won satisfying professional grades and school ‘Steel Cradle’ scholarship. I of course was not absolutely a book worm who just accepted knowledge blindly. Oppositely I also took an energetic participation in various extracurricular activities. As the class literary committee member, I organized some meaningful cultural activities to enrich our college life. Besides, I was also the capable chief editor of Scholl Journal Metallurgy Presencen. And my role in school English association also enhanced my ability in communication, expression, cooperation, and of course oral English. Beyond that, my interests in finance have taken root in period of my college life. I always attended series of lectures concerned with finance with my friend, a student majoring in Economics in Peking University, during which I have gradually cultivated sharp insights into finance as well as obtained a better understanding about finance, which is also a driving force for my further study in finance. Here a new journey with finance is spreading out in front of me. My desire to have an advanced education in finance to cater to my work requirement has ever increasingly strengthened. I also hope to accept a systematical training and study in finance and to completely fit for my current financial work in the near future. Still existing quite a long way to go, I realize I must conquer lots of difficulties before my dream comes true. Optimistically, positively and passionately, I am here stretching out my arms to embrace you, Hong Kong Polytechnic University where brims with excelsior research attitudes, international financial atmosphere as well as rich cultural deposits. It seems my sparkling future is waving to me. I just cannot wait to embrace it. |
