Introduction
Green buildings are constructed with the objective of efficiently utilising natural resources and energy in addition to being economical (Freed 2008). In China, green building projects aim at reducing carbon emissions to the environment and decreasing energy consumption because China is a very large country with a huge population. By 2004 in China, only four buildings had been considered satisfactory according to the Green Movement’s requirements. The project was officially commission in April 2012 under the stewardship of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the Ministry of Finance, with a target of 30% of all new buildings required to be green. But China faces several challenges including poor transparency regarding the implemented Three Star Rating System on green buildings, inadequate technical capacity, lack of a reliable supply chain for green building materials, and negative perceptions among developers regard the costs and benefits of the green projects (Walsh 2012).在中国，绿色建筑项目的目的是减少碳排放对环境和降低能耗，因为中国是一个非常大的国家，人口多。到2004年在中国，根据绿色运动的要求只有四个建筑已被认为是令人满意的。该项目正式于2012年4月委托住房和城乡建设部和财政部部的领导下，与是绿色要求所有新建筑的30 ％的目标。但是，中国面临着一些挑战，包括关于实施三星级评定系统上的绿色建筑，技术能力不足，缺乏一个可靠的供应链，绿色建材，以及开发人员之间的负面看法都把成本和绿化工程的好处（沃尔什透明度差2012） 。

The green building movement has since its initiation advocated for sustainability management that aims at balancing environmental impacts with equity and economics (Kibert 2013). High-performance green buildings are sustainable or green buildings characterised by optimal energy efficiency, lighting and mechanical systems, and improved quality of the indoor environment. The best reasons for increasing widespread of adopting this project include decreased costs of energy, enhanced productivity and health of occupants. Over time, this interest has attracted architectural, engineering, and construction industry (Korkmaz 2007),
The reason for the success in the performance of this paradigm is the major focus on the built environment: the construction companies and the physical structures they build (Kibert 2013). There are two changes accompanying this new paradigm. First, there is increasing demand for resource-efficient buildings, where minimal water and energy consumption is a key requirement (Kibert 2013). Second, the need to reduce the consumption of energy (both operational and transportation) has been the focus requiring carefully selecting construction sites. Freed (2008), acknowledges that the population of the world is exploding very fast. According to a research by Bakar et al. (2009)[Only one reference…would be better if you could show a few more!! ], the following are the key critical success factors (CSFs) involved in green building projects management, appearing in order of priority starting with the most essential: competent project team, authority of the project leader/manager, project understanding, top management support, client involvement, project mission or shared goal, adequate resources, realistic cost and time estimates, information communication, project ownership, performance and feedback monitoring, planning and controlling, risk management, adequate project control, and problem solving abilities.
The main factors that hinder the success of green housing projects include design and engineering changes, unexpected inflation, poor estimations, higher scope with low quality and project complexity due to size (Dey 2002). Other hindrances to green building projects especially in developing nations include political and economic instability, scarce resources, relatively unskilled workforces, and low productivity due to wastages (Salleh 2009); poor infrastructure, fraud , government influence, financing , and informal sector’s influence (Salleh 2009).[Why two Salleh (2009)s – are the issues from two different references!!
The environment in China is getting worse because of the high rate of executing construction projects that are not environment friendly[Do you have evidence of this? Perhaps a news article? ]. Therefore, Green building projects have become the trend for future constructions. However, the learning curve in green building project in China is still in the basic level, [I think China has more eco-cities than any other place. ]and management factors [What are they? ]have long believed will highly influence the project success. This project paper will focus on the factors that influence the success of delivering green building projects in China through project management, to identify the critical success factors for green building projects in project management view to fill this gap.
This project paper will first discuss the CSFs in the literature review section, by doing the review of the recent researches to identify factors which will influence the project performance. Moreover, this research will base on those possible factors to do interviews [Who ? Have you got access ?]and questionnaires[Have you got access? ] with senior managers and engineers who work for green building projects in Chinese construction companies and other stakeholders of this kind of project (e.g. government and individuals[What kind of individuals? Why? ]). This aim is to classify which factors will be the CSFs for green building project in China.
1.2 Problem statement
With the improvement of environmental protection consciousness of the world and the increasing number of China's environmental problem.[comma] Green building project or sustainable construction project has long become the future of the construction industry. Effective project management will highly improve the possibility of project success and help to aware risk in a higher degree. To identify the critical success factors for the project will be beneficial to guarantee the effectiveness of management of the project. However, there has been no previous study in China have done this job[are you sure? ]. China as the largest developing country in the world may have different external situation with Western developed countries, and specific requirements for green building project may be had in China as well. The CSFs for green building project may be not suitable for the situation in China. This paper will try to fill the gap.[I would suggest that you reword this? ]
1.3 Professional significance of the study
This paper[Dissertation ? ] aims at contributing to the existing knowledge on the best ways of achieving timely and cost-friendly delivery of high performance green (HPG) construction or building projects in the light existing struggles to conduct sustainable businesses (Means 2011). This study tries to view HPG in the light of calls for immediate and active participation in the green movement but within the construction industry. This will be unlike most previous studies that have evaded this perspective on the topic due to reasons like the[How are you planning to overcome these obstacles? ] high number of performance variables[What are these? And how do they impact/influence …], limited research in HPG, limited size of the population since the movement is relatively new, data collection challenges in the field, and the fact that the learning curve is not well developed.
To the stakeholders (i.e., construction companies, individuals, and corporations), this will advise on the benefits of using green buildings and help clear the misunderstandings [What are the misunderstandings? ]around the new paradigm of construction. Because of the findings this research will come up with, which shall be made available to the public, construction companies can collaborate with the researcher on matters relating to initiating, designing, constructing, and maintaining sustainable buildings that do not affect the health of people or the environment where such buildings are sited.

This paper will use several methodologies in collecting data and facts to inform the conclusion or findings arrived at. The other technique used to gather findings is the interview method. Interviews with project stakeholders will help identify certain factors in China that enable or hinder the successful adoption and implementation of green buildings. Interviews provide primary information and have the benefit of probing further to seek clarifications of responses given by the participants.
Lastly, questionnaires are used to collect data on green building projects from different individuals and construction company representatives. Questionnaires are easier to administer and do not require so much time to analyse. In fact, feedback obtained from questionnaires is easier to analyse especially if the questions are structured and closed –ended, a case in which statistical applications like Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) prove very useful.
Upon gathering the data, the research will use the statistical methods to analyse the results from the questionnaires and interviews to try to find out the critical success factors need in managing construction projects. The findings of this study will be linked to the findings of the literature review relating to this project and trying to promote the performance of those factors combined with the result in recent research, and the findings from the interviews.
1.5 Delimitation
This study has a few limitations. First, it is conducted within China and involves a few companies and individuals. The selected region’s population sampled may not be representative of the world because of dynamics like culture, economy, religion, et cetera that interplay to affect whether or not people choose the option of green buildings. Marketing dynamics affect adoption this construction paradigm because potential interest parties would want evidence of its performance and benefits (Yudelson 2008). Second, the concept of sustainable constructions is still new, and in places, it has been around for some time, it has not been given much attention as to implementing it. In China, the concept is relatively fresh unlike in regions like the United States. For this reason, the findings may differ.
Third, due to limitations of time, the study will not engage a large number of participants and construction companies [As stated above, how are you going to determine sample and sample size ]in its fact-finding study. Fourth, it would be very difficult to finance a wider study because of logistical issues involving travelling, collecting information, and carrying out reconnaissance studies. Lastly, the paper aims at using interviews and questionnaires to collect information to inform the conclusion. However, honesty levels in interviews and questionnaires may be subject to criticism.[You need to identify a reference to this and also suggest some means to mitigate this. ]
1.6 Definition of terms
Sustainable construction – it is the ecological, economic, and social aspect relating to building in the framework of community. The term is sometimes loosely interchangeably with green construction or high performance construction (Kibert 2013).
