As a senior of marketing department in the Business School in Nankai University, the more relevant Business courses I take, the more I am certain that I must cultivate my profound insights and enhance my humanistic accomplishment because not only Business but also nearly every region in society is so highly relevant to Social Science. I love Social Science and I realize that what I have learned as an undergraduate is far from enough.MA program in Social Science at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology offers an interdisciplinary curriculum which is what I dream of. Therefore, it is my dream to get an admission into this program.
My interest in Social Science was ignited in a volunteer project to teach young children in rural village called Jinxiu in Guangxi Province in 2010. Though there are rich hot spring resources, villagers with low cultural level and earning cannot make good use of it by exploiting and marketing. They have a chance originally to change the backward teaching environment which shocked me. http://www.ukassignment.org/essayfw/ My ideal future career is being an enterpriser who will own my own company and contribute to the society. I chose Business courses in my undergraduate years for the reason that I believe Business could greatly enrich our country. But then I realized that the country’s real progress and individual’s growth cannot be separated from each other meaning more prosperous country must first make its people rich first. As the saying goes, give the fish is better than to give fish. This is what motivates me to become involved in the field of social work.
I do believe myself can adapt to the challenging circumstance in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, of which lessons teaching in English. Not only because I have a half-year experience of being an exchange student of my major in Korea University, during which it teaches professional curriculums in English too, but also my IELTS score is higher above the average and I have outstanding academic results in CET-6. And also my GPA is 3.5/4.0 for overall courses of the undergraduate years in my major. Through extensive reading and group research, they help me not only develop good study habits, but perform well enough to get the First Prize Scholarship (top 10%), strongly demonstrating my exceptional academic performance. More importantly, they are both the indication and the guarantee of my potentials in graduate study. The overseas living experience allowed me to have a more vivid comparison of different aspects of China and South Korea society and culture. In order to improve my communication skills and ability to do presentations, I attended Marketing Case Study Group in Korea University, during which I finish a dissertation about a Korean native snack called “pekpeklo”, of which sales success could be described as a social phenomenon more than marketing. At the end, we gave a presentation, which received a great appreciation from professor Yoo and other classmates.
I did not limit myself to academic studies at the university. Not only I strengthen my abilities of good teamwork consciousness and excellent ability to communicate with people in practice by participating in numerous activities, but also I take charge some of them. There are some activities I have in charge to contact people, maybe it will be favorable to my study in my taught postgraduate courses. I’m familiar with planning activities, for example, I managed the series activities of “Initiating Party”, “Mid-Autumn Dinner” and so on, when I was the president of the Guangxi Association of Naikai University between 2009 and 2010, during which I got consistent high praise in my schoolfellows. To make the activity successful, I observed calmly by dividing my duties into four parts, that’s seeking supports by contacting with the education department of Chinese embassy in Korea to supply us Chinese characteristics items, helping 3 Korea students in our Chinese booth to communicate and coordinate, describing the blueprint of China’s booth, commanding four directors dealing affairs in detail. My abilities developed incisively and vividly in every part. In the meantime, these cases remind me of my strong points, that’s why I’d like to have a further education in management. I hope I can exert my talents to make contributions for the society after the further-studying in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Thanks to my academic and leadership reputation, I was offered an internship in Wal-Mart this summer, the biggest retailer in the world. Being a director assistant in Wal-Mart VIP service department, I learned how to seek and maintain key customers. However, what is more important is that Wal-Mart's corporate culture has a significant influence on me about the team management in future, form which I learned how to create a vitality team culture. It makes me more confident, more secure, and more relaxed to believe I can achieve my dream that build a company and manage it.
