UK HEI are struggling for student recruitment and retention due to in-creasing global competition, decreasing

government funding and more de-manding stakeholders. The research central issue of concern is the nature ofthe

student experience provided at a major UK HEI. The physical as well asthe emotional experience of the students has

been analysed to identify thecritical touch-points of the experience journey through which UK HEIs canbuild student

loyalty.

The research approach is inductive, the methodology used is the parallelmixed method. Prior to the data analysis

the resercher has formulated aconceptual model, which was then compared with the mixed findings andthen

compared with the descriptive model.

The qualitative research stand was based on five indept interviews withstudents while the quantitative stand was

between the students’ willingness to recommend and the students’feeling of belonging and between the students’

qualitative confirmed most of the hypothesis on the experiential worldlayers of the conceptual model, in particular

those related to the studentssociocultural context, values and consumption situation.

Based on the literature review and also primary research, improving thestudents’ feeling of belonging to the

university and geneerating a more plea-surable experience UK HEIs can develope more student-advocates,

whichare less likely to defect from the university and reduce the cost of recruit-met. The most important touch-points

through which UK HEIs can shapethe student experience are the welcome week, the university

accomodationexperience and the experience with professors and tutors.
