大众媒体发展状况分析

Over the last fifty years, the methods of information transmission have become more abundant, and the speed of propagation is growing quickly, which are attributed to the rapid development of the mass media.

In contemporary society, it is plays a pivotal role in our modern life which have revolutionized the way people think and act. Also, it is evident that the different mass media has changed rapidly. This issue has some positive effects; however, the negative influence is much more profound and far-reaching.

This essay will firstly discuss the decline and transformation of print media, such as newspapers, magazines and books. It will then illustrate television, film and other broadcast media that affect our life. Finally, it will be argued that the development of internet media is popular and useful on today’s society.本文将首先讨论的已经衰落和需要转型的平面媒体，如报纸，杂志和书籍。然后，将会说明，电视，电影和其他广播媒体对我们的生活的影响。

 

‘Changes in the media industries have always been stimulated by technical developments and new means of mass communication. The diode valve, cinema sound, the steam printing press, telegraphy, the transistor, paperback book-binding and so on have all facilitated major change in the nature of the media and the forms of communications available.’ (Peter Golding 1984:103) Starting with the invention of first printing machine, the change for that is dependent on the development of the social science and the modern technology. In contrast, it is noticeably that the impact of mass media on every single person, and a society as a whole.

In the first place, print media such as newspapers, magazines, books, brochures, newsletters, leaflets, and pamphlets, providing people with new information. Press covered news from different sources then spread out to the public to educate and to entertain them different happenings. It is noted (Golding, 1984) that the supply is differentiated into a variety of competing or complementary sources for the most media. The print media, particularly books, are the most differentiated. This mode of transmission maintained many years, which making a habit of read newspapers everyday for senior citizens. Granted, less and less people buy a book to get information now especially for young people and the sources of information are finite. In recent years, print media particularly some large presses pay attention to websites and electronic books. Therefore, print media should be protected, at the same time, it needs to change and develop.

Further more, broadcast media namely televisions, films, radios, movies, CDs, DVDs, and other devices such as cameras and video consoles which is another important mass media. Jowett and Linton (1989:13) argue that movies are not only a separate form of “entertainment”, there is also has a closely interrelationships between movies and the other media. As they said, broadcast media develop rapidly and spread widely during the last five decades, people get information from televisions, radios and movies in general. However, an increasing number of children suffer from obesity and near-sightedness as a result of spending too much time in front of a flashing screen. It is replacing traditional family time as a source of entertainment or a means of relieving stress. Nowadays parents spend less time with children. They let them enjoy PC games and TV programs to keep them quiet. Although TV programs, such as cartoons and comedies, can provide joy to children, many others show vivid depictions of violence, cheat and hatred. That lead children are gradually turned away from real life and become unwilling to engage in social activities. What is more, media in order to gain higher box office and ratings, regardless of the authenticity of the content and whether it helps the audience's physical and mental health on today’s society. Hence, business and media producers should not just interest in there rights, the audience's feelings and real information dissemination is more essential.

 

Finally, in the recent two decades witnessed a sharp rise in the internet media which is the most eye-catching media and much more complex. 最后，在最近的二十年里出现了急剧发展的网络媒体，这是最抢眼的和更复杂的媒体。
