One of the most serious problems many people talk about today canters on the lack of adequate energy.
许多人谈论的其中最严重的一个问题是关于充足能量的缺失。
As the population grows in the world， fossil fuels are beginning to use up. Energy resources are becoming shortage in many areas of the EU.  The rise in energy cost makes us consider alternative sources of energy for our needs. So，sustainable development is important for humans.因此，可持续发展对于人类是很重要的。

Sustainable development include three parts, there are economy, society an environment. Economic development promoting social progress, social progress promoting environmental protection. When it comes to sustainable development，the time period of it must at least two generations and it contains at least three different parts: the sustainable economic development，the sustainable ecological development and the sustainable social development. Each sustainable development has its own goal. Sustainable economic development concentrates on natural and social resources management and developing economic basis. The aim of sustainable ecological development is to protect the natural systems.Sustainable development is development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Many kinds of alternative sources of energy have been developed with the development of science and technology. Such as solar energy，wind energy , hydroelectric energy and nuclear energy.

In ancient times, human used food,fiber and fuel as materials to support their    lives and economy.They did not use non-renewable materials frequently. Before the Industrial Revolution,here was a little bit of pollutants and the pace of recycling is fast. That is to say human activities did not lead to the change of global energy and material cycles. 也就是说人类活动不会导致全球能源和物质循环的变化。

In the 20th century,the human population added up to seven billion in 2000 whose figure was five billion more than that in 1800. In these period of time，the consumption of fossil fuels peaked,such as coal,oil and natural gas. It is predicted that society will soon undergo a “transition”brought about by the overuse of Earth’s limited resources. If we do not handle this problem in a right way,the patterns of the consumption and growth cannot be sustained. Ecosystem services play a vital role in the human economy. It concludes climate regulation,clean fresh water and so on,which depend on solar-driven natural systems. So sustainable development is essential in our modern society.Sustainable development is development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. (WCED,1987)The key point of sustainable development is to support basic human activities and do not harm the ecosystem in the same time. Sustainable development also means that human should live in a peace,freedom,better living conditions and healthy environment. But how to solve the issue above?We could take urban for example. That is to say we would focus on sustainable urban development. Firstly,we should try our best to minimize the negative impacts which result from economic competition among countries. Secondly,making sure equality of income,employment opportunities and quality of life. Moreover,preventing the climate change and global warming trend.Conserving energy and using renewable sources efficiently are good ways to keep fossil fuels from running out. Freibury in Germany not only build a solar city and region,but also convinced citizens to participate in this areas widely. In the Vauban district of France where has a co-generation system and relies on woodland area byproducts to provide electric power and heating for the whole district. In this way can minimize the emissions of carbon dioxide，sulfur dioxide and many other minerals.

It is one of the best approaches to keep sustainable development that exploiting alternative sources. In Swedish, their started researching substitutes of current sources in 1991, and after 8 years, the city manager have found the adultness way to refine the energy from the wood waste by biology process and then the city began relying on heat generated from the new biogas plant (rosenthal,2010). As we can see from this instance, to substitute for traditional resource by alternative sources, people will not only rely on fossil fuel, which is almost drained. We do not need to know how to solve the resource, we need to focus on the research of the new energy. To develop technology, there are lots of works we need to do. On the other hand, the other opinion is increase reliance on renewable energy. Fossil fuels are expensive. And, a crucial component of the renewable energy mix has become gas extracted from biomass like farm and food waste. In addition, because of the making renewable energy process will increase the employment rate; the city need more people to help to exploration and discovery the new energy.  The government can use the tax to control the use of fossil fuels. For example, in China there is 20 per cent of tax in gas oil.
