The number one challenge cited by senior thesis writers is not having enough time to devote to the thesis. 很多学生都面临着无法在规定的最后期限内交出毕业论文的难题。 Use the summer. Take time over the summer/winter and actually WORK on the thesis. You will be thankful . 利用夏季的时间。在夏季或冬季花时间在写论文上,之后你将会非常感激你的安排的。 later. Also, make sure that all your experiments are done by the end of winter session or you will actually go crazy. Absolutely have a FULL literature review completed by the end of the summer before you begin your thesis. Don't let it wait until the last minute! It is much easier to take it a little bit at a time. It is also very helpful to get most of your data collected over the summer so you don't have to worry about that during the semester. Goal-setting, time management, staying motivated. Break your thesis into smaller parts and work with your thesis director to set up a timeline for completing the pieces gradually, so that putting it together doesn't feel like such a huge project in May. Get started early and set small goals for yourself throughout the process! It is far easier to write a page a day or even a few pages a week than it is to cram all of your writing into the last couple of weeks. Allow for time in your weekly schedule to work on your thesis and stick to it as religiously as possible - otherwise, you'll fall behind. Keep track of your journal articles. Start reading them early and put together an outline of the important information from each. It's painstaking but it will be immensely useful once you sit down to actually write the thesis. Start writing earlier than you think is necessary. If you can get the easy stuff (like methods) out of the way early, you'll have more time to devote to the tougher stuff that will require more in-depth research (introduction and discussion). Your thesis director: Communicate. Often. Set up weekly or biweekly meetings with your thesis director so that you stay in contact and your thesis director is aware of your progress and any problems you're having. Weekly meetings with your thesis director forces you to research and write a little every single week. As you're completing sections of your thesis, have your thesis director and/or second reader look them over and request feedback. That way, when you put the pieces together in April, it's familiar to them and there will be fewer edits you'll need to make. Make sure you choose an thesis director who is aware of the time commitment on his or her end and is willing and able to really guide you through the thesis process. Every other week, send an email to your thesis director with an update on what you!ˉve done, because it sets a good tone for in-person meetings (they!ˉre nt just about problems). Data analysis never underestimate the possibility of needing to re-process data, never forget that if YOU didn't write the computer program which you are using, there is a chance that you (1) are using the program incorrectly and will get bad data, or (2) that the program is not computing things correctly. I can't even say how many times I've looked at my data and re- processed and re-ran stats... and again. Leave time for this! Writing Start writing now. Right now. Write as much of your thesis as possible before the spring semester of your senior year, and keep in constant contact with your thesis committee to ensure you do not fall through the cracks of your readers! busy schedules. Patience Do not take poor results personally. Research takes a lot of patience, and experiments rarely work out exactly the way you want them to. No matter how hard the project gets, stay motivated! |
