Proposed title of my dissertation
Equal Opportunities policies and practices in Chinese companies
Research questions
In the UK, there has been recent growth in the number of organizations adopting formal written EO policies, and suggesting that EO issues are now being dealt with more seriously. However, according to Hoque and Noon (2004), many EO policies are ‘empty shells’, such as organizations have an EO policy but do not have supporting practices or only minority of staff have access to those practices. They also indentified the types of workplace that are the most/least likely to have an ‘empty shell’ policy.
Following from this, I would like to conduct a similar investigation in China
The research questions of my dissertation will be as follows
1. What is the incidence of Equal Opportunity policies in China? Are EO policies adopted by Chinese organizations and to what extent?
2. If Chinese organisations have adopted EO policies, to what extent have they introduced EO practices to support those policies?
3. What factors explain the uptake of Equal Opportunities policies and practices in China? The investigation will explore two possible explanations, these being the nature and extent of China’s EO legislation, and the extent to which Chinese companies have bought into the business case for equality.
4. Does the situation vary in different organizations?
For example, it may be the case that EO issues are handled differentlyhttp://www.ukassignment.org/daixieEssay/meiguoessaydaixie/ in domestic organizations than in foreign direct investment organizations. Similarly, there may well be differences between Public sector workplaces and Private sector workplaces.
