指导essay-The Brave heart
“When romance do really teach anything, or produce any effective operation, it is usually through a far more suitable process than the ostensible one.” This is what Nathaniel Hawthorne told us. The Scarlet Letter A is a tragedy described a love story between a young woman and a handsome priest. All were related to the letter “A” after the heroine was punished by the public. The letter “A” is a kind of due of the story.
First, I’d like to say something about the beginning setting of chapter 2. At the very beginning, Hawthorne set us a scene with sharp contradiction. The heroine Hester Prynne was punished to wear a scarlet letter on her chest. People in society all regarded her kind of shame for her scandal. She was treated as hussy and was looked down upon. From the beginning, we can see the contradiction spread between Hester and society which stand for Puritanism. This is such kind of skill for writing attracts me to read on, to find out more details. I felt as if I was on the scene. When Hester was tormented by the public, I felt painful and admired for the braveness of her. I think it is also a implication that the plot will be tortuous and the story may has a sad ending at the bondage of religion and conformity.
Then I found quite a few symbols in the story. “A” is of course the biggest symbol. Besides, the woods, the grave, the brier outside the church and even the daughter of Hester are all symbols. “A” may means “adultery” in the eye of public, but “A” stands for “able” and “angel”. “A” is a spirit of pursuing freedom and human sense; “A” also means flesh love between Hester and Dimmesdale. The brier booming proudly outside the church yard symbolized the spirit of fighting against the religion and blindness in that age. The baby Pearl was an alive “A”. She represented the fruit of love between Hester and Dimmesdale. She remained human nature of liberty and pureness with abandon.
essay指导 When it comes to appreciate the characters, Hester impressed me most. She is a brave woman with strong mind and grittiness. In order to protect the man she loved, she would rather wear a letter “A” as a sign of shame in others eyes, than spoke out his name. She didn’t care to bear a so-called bad reputation. She liked scarlet letter “A”, as if it was a kind of glory. Surely, it was a glory. She struggled for true love and liberation of the personality. She act to fight against the power of religion and blindness at that time. She did a good needle work and earned her living by her skill. She was a woman of ability. She was loyal to love and brave enough to face the pressure and guilty alone, to shoulder the responsibility alone. She was noble as an angel. People’s attitude toward her changed from despise to admirable. Dimmesdale’s recreance and avoidance of responsibility and Chillingworth’s insidious and malicious can serve as a foil to Hester.
美国文学essay There is my understanding for The Scarlet Letter A. Pursing true love and freedom, aspiring for human sense and human nature is the immortal voice came from this story, which lighted the road before us in human beings history and enlighten the ignorance.
