American football, which is referred to as football in the United States and Canada, also is known as gridiron elsewhere, and it is a sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. American football evolved from the sport of rugby football. Rugby, like American football, is a sport where two competing teams lie for control of a ball, which can be kicked through a set of goalposts or run into the opponent’s goal area to score points.  There are many types of scoring points, including passing the ball across the bottom line, throwing the ball to teammates after the bottom line, and shooting straightly in the middle of the ground. The team who get the higher scores win the competition.   American football is strongly antagonisticm, and it is normal to have body collisions, so the players have to wear helmets and be protectively armed.

According to the data shows that professional football and college football are the most popular forms of the game, with the other major levels being high school and youth football. As of 2012, nearly 1.1 million high school athletes and 7000 college athletes play the sport in the United States annually (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football). I think it is why people said that American football as a whole is the most popular sport in the United States .

1920 witnessed the start of American professional football. The APFA(American Professional Football Association) was founded in Canton, Ohio. In 1921, APFA began to list the official rank, and in the following years they renamed the association as the NFL (National Football economic). Before the end of the Second World War, professional American football began to compete with teams from colleges, which grew considerably in the mid - 1960s, even became Americans’ favorite sports beyond the baseball.  In recent years, the NFL expanded for new markets and experienced business risk. In 1986, the league started a series of before- season games, which was known as the American Cup, held out of the native America. Established in 1991, the World League of American Football, is exactly the current European Football League.

People often compare American football with soccer and Americans often be asked that why do people in the USA prefer American football over soccer? Some people said it is mostly because most Americans never really played soccer professionally. and they can't appreciate a good play that doesn't result in a goal.  American football is understood by the average American, we know how the game goes, it has a visceral response and more immediate feedback for fans.  A successful play is obvious, it results in more yardage or a score.  In soccer, a successful play may or may not result in scoring, and you may not recognize the beautiful pass or key defensive effort without being familiar with the game. Others said Americans feel that watching soccer is boring, there is very little scoring, and very little action. By contrast, there is so much great action in football. Football is god's gift to televised sports and audiences, so many great plays and such diversity of action. I more agree with the second point. Every play has the possibility of unleashing a burst of massive excitement and surprise! However, I like the feeling when I saw the game and it is a good way for me to relax. It is really a windfall by checking Catmail, because when I checked  my email I took chance to find a ticket to a football game in my school and it became at 6:00 that day—there were only one hour to go!.

I fortunately have a chance to enjoy a visual feast about American football game at my new university. The field was really like “red sea”, Almost of people were in red and it was really a right decision to wear a red T-shirt in order to become one of the “red sea”. Actually, red and blue are the representative colors of Arizona Wildcats and of course the representative colors of Arizona Wildcats Football team, the home team. However, there was no doubt that I would cheer for our team, the Arizona Wildcats football team and I believed that they would win the game. 

It is a close and exciting game. The football passed very quickly from different players. All players on the court spared every effort to get the ball, while their fans were encouraging and supporting them beside. My palms were full of sweat of excitement and worry because I hoped my favorite team would win the game but it seemed hard. All of a sudden, one of my favorite players caught the ball, and he immediately ran toward the direction of the goal. When he got to an appropriate distance, he shot the ball into the goal accurately. A wave of cheers broke out of the court, and I could not help jumping with excitement. I nearly ran onto the court and celebrated with the whole team.

When the break, there were different kinds of cams showing on the screen, which I had never seen in previous football games, such as kiss cam, muscle. Everyone enthusiastically into the activity and was very excited. Some showed his muscles, some kissed with his sweetheart. I thought that the section not only could add a lot of fun to the match, but also could provide a platform for the audiences to show themselves. What impressed me most is the school band. Instead of just sit there playing their instruments, they stood in the center of the field to play their instruments while dancing. I had always thought that the band and the American football game would not have any relations, but obviously they rejected my point of view by action. In many cities in the United States, the instrument performance and cheerleading performance has become one of the important cultural characteristics of the location.

Americans like football, and so do I, after I watched the game. If there are other opportunities to watch American football game in the future, I will go for it again without any hesitation. As the proverb says, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. The culture and spirit in American football is worthwhile for everybody to study. I hope more and more people will fall in love American football and introduce it to the whole world. We know that some players have suffered from brain injuries as a result of those battering during games, and we know that concerns about those brain injuries are growing to the point that many are starting to question the safety of playing the sport at all. And I believe that more protective measures will be taken to make sure the safety of the players. One day ,maybe we can see American football everywhere on the earth.
