Either you have asked that I be your supervisor or I have decided to be your http://www.ukassignment.org/dxfgassignment/ supervisor, whatever the case, I want to lay down the rules of the game for the next few months:
• Please read the graduating project (GP) guidelines booklet you were given and the following information is in addition to the booklet.
• I would like to remind you that a GP is aprox. 400 hours of work.
• From now on, it is up to you to contact me, if you don’t contact me, I will not contact you.
• I expect to see your work chapter by chapter – I will not give my comments on several chapters at any one time. This also means that I will not correct your whole GP that you decide to send in December.
• When you send your work to me, you need to give me at least one week turnaround – this means that there is no point writing to me the next day asking for my comments.
• In your GP, I expect to see at least the following:
o An Introduction – this sets the scene, gives some background to the topic that you are writing about, backed up with sources from the press etc, explains your research questions and the layout of your GP
o A literature review that covers all the different concepts in your research question. i.e. “How HR Managers perceive MScs in Breton companies”. I would expect you to start by talking about MSc in general, perception of HR managers, Breton companies and then perception of HR Managers in Breton companies and MScs in Breton companies. This means that your literature review is related to your research question. In actual fact, your research question(s) should come out of the literature review because you are trying to prove or disprove what existing literature is telling you. I would expect you to use academic sources i.e. not the internet and in this chapter I would expect information from at least 30 different academic sources. In this part of the GP, none of it is your work so everything you write, needs to be referenced using the Harvard model. I will enclose a copy with this letter. At the end of this chapter, you will give a justification for your study i.e. either you are developing/or giving a new angle to existing literature or you are filling a gap because nothing exists in current academic literature.
o A methodology chapter. This explains “scientifically” how you collected your data, why you chose one method instead of another. What did you do to ensure validity and reliability in your data collection? Basically, it is like a recipe and I should be able to follow all your “instructions” and come up with exactly the same results. This chapter should also contain a number of references.
o Data analysis. You present your data using graphs, charts, pie charts etc. You do not have to put all your data here, please use appendices when necessary.
o Conclusion & recommendation chapter. Here you “answer” your research questions and you refer back to the literature review – does your study confirm what has been said in the existing literature or can you draw different conclusions. What concrete recommendations can you make on your subject? You finish with a paragraph on limitations – can your study be generalised or is it limited to the company, sector etc you studied and then a paragraph on further research – what other studies could be carried out.
o Appendices. Anything else that is not vital to the study but could be helpful.
o Bibliography. Again please look at the Harvard model – alphabetical order. You can have a section called references – this refers to all the sources used in the study and I should be able to find them and then a section bibliography that includes sources you have read but not quoted in your study. All in all we are looking for about 70-100 different references/sources including a number of academic sources.
• As stated earlier, I will comment on chapter by chapter. Once I have given you my comments on a chapter I will NOT review a chapter again even if you do substantial revision. For obvious reasons because I would be correcting my own work. However, if you follow my comments, you should be on the right track.
• I will not correct your English – it is up to you to make sure your English is comprehensible. If there are sections of your work I do not understand, I will simply highlight them.
I hope these comments are helpful and that you understand the way we http://www.ukassignment.org/dxfgassignment/ will work together. I will be absent until the 1st September, so there is no point in trying to contact me before them. I wish you all good luck and I’m sure if you follow the above instructions you will produce a good graduating project.
