Creative Problem Solving
Exercise – what is creativity?
There have been many attempts to get some kind of measure of creativity. This is a fun exercise which is designed to give you a chance to think about creativity. Do not be too concerned about methodology at this stage. As with all activities, it will be useful to review the purpose, methodology and potential value at the end. You need to do this exercise in pairs but work through stages one and two on your own.
Stage One Prepare three questions for a colleague that you think will give some insight into creativity. Your colleague will be doing the same thing, so you can expect to be asked to answer 3 questions. You must decide what is appropriate (you can be creative with this) but you can reasonably ask about interests, hobbies and any change of routine.
Students who have recently done this exercise have asked about:
• any new friends
• changes in shopping behaviour
• general reading (browsing)
Stage Two Prepare a scoring sheet so that you can give the answers a mark (using the convention that evidence of creativity should receive a higher score).
Stage Three You can now swop questionnaires and answer the questions you have been given. Once completed return.
Stage Four Score the questionnaire. Give the score (we suggest diplomatically) to your colleague. You should also get your score back.
Stage Five Discuss your findings with your colleague. What do you think? Have you got a measure of creativity?
Feedback
The exercise is intended to get you to think about the design of such questionnaires. Just look on the internet and you will come across lots of claims for lots of questionnaires. The basis of these questionnaires is the self scoring of questions about how often you do things or think about things. If sport or other outdoor activities are seen as important by the author then there will be questions on this and positive scores allocated.
Do you think the questions say more about the author than the respondent?
What does it say about an understanding of creativity? http://www.ukassignment.org/ygkczy/
There is the view that every person can be creative but they may be creative in different ways. If this is the case (and you will see evidence of this) then is it possible to measure through some simplistic questionnaire or just a few observations of behaviour. If creativity is more complex than this the maybe we need to think about it in different ways. People often say they are not creative without considering circumstance. A creative problem solving course will consider barriers to creativity and ways to creativity. Like all journeys (a well used metaphor) making a start can be important. The understanding of creativity requires careful reflection and is more than just acknowledging a few positive characteristics.#p#分页标题#e#
