How do I find a firm?
• Google for combinations of words like “multidivisional form” “example, “M-form” etc or look at Fortune500
• Choose a firm that interests you and use detective work to establish its internal organisation
• Remember – search for the location of (a) operational decisions and (b) strategic decisions (that affect the whole firm)
Detective work
• Read the first few pages of the Annual report and look for a description of the firm’s activities
• See if the firm uses words like “division” or “subsidiary”
• Look at the jobs of the executive directors (for example HBOS, Tesco, Alliance-Boots)
• Make a guess at the dominant form of organisaton, because all firms are hybrids.

An analysis of the international business environment and the extent to which national boundaries still matter for international firms (IFs).
For the purposes of this module, an IF is any firm that trades with, or invests in, at least one other country.
This environment is analysed at three levels:
1. National level
2. Firm level
3. Supra-national level
Logically, these should be 3, 1, 2.
