Write a 2000 word report on one issueor problem within the IT industry. You must comment on ethical and social issues and consider how professional practice has influenced the area. Your report may use a current article or news story as the catalyst; however, you will need to undertake deep research and demonstrate critical evaluation of and clear arguments around the issueor problem you are exploring.
If you provide an assessment of future impact, it is suggested that you limit yourself to a 5-year horizon. Please ensure that you write in an academic style that is understandable by a group of your peers (that is, students in the same stage.)
All and any evidence from external sources (some of which may be on web sites) must be correctly and fully referenced as per the University’s guidelines.
Deliverables
A report of no less than 1,950 and no more than 2,100 words, which is substantiated by a word count. This will count 100% towards the coursework mark.
Marking Scheme and Assessment Criteria
The following table represents the required aspects with their weightings, and an outline of the factors that will be used to determine the quality of each aspect.
Note that there are no specific assessment criteria for the prototype report.

You may wish to use the weightings for the report as a guide to the volume of material that should appear in each section.
In order to pass the coursework (at ≥ 40%), you need to have:
• selected an issue or problem from one of the four theme areas
• commented on related social, ethical and professional issues including your career aspirations
• completed a report of the specified length and structure with correct referencing
Marks ≥ 50% can be awarded if the research shows reasonable depth and fair insight into the issue or problem and the related aspects. Descriptive writing must be supplemented by some analysis of the issue/problem and its aspects.
Marks ≥ 60% can be awarded if the research shows substantial depth and good insight into the issue or problem and the related aspects. Descriptive writing must be supplemented by detailed analysis of the issue/problem and its aspects.
Marks ≥ 70% can be awarded if the research shows considerable depth and breadth plus excellent insight into the issue or problem and the related aspects. Descriptive writing must be supplemented by detailed analysis of the issue/problem and its aspects and recommendations for managing them.
Marks < 40% indicate a submission that is simply not good enough; subject competence and/or personal thoroughness/effort are inadequate.
