• Investigate a range of research contexts, procedures and resources appropriate to the level and scope required for individual studio practice
• Further knowledge and understanding of appropriate industries, associated markets and professional standards
• Develop analytical and evaluating methods for the investigation and description of industries, markets and the profession.
Objectives • Introduction to research at postgraduate level
• Develop appropriate market and contextual research methodologies
• Assist in the development of individual student design projects
• Consider the relationship between practical work and research based investigations
Brief Select a product that is already available for purchase and research that product as thoroughly as possible, including your own critical evaluation of the design and a comparative analysis of any competing products.

Collect as much relevant information as you can about your selected product, where possible undertaking primary research through direct contact with designers, manufacturers, suppliers etc. and develop a system for organising the information obtained.
