Assessment Details:
You are to research, prepare and present a report of between 2000 and 2500 words on the following:
The expansion of the internet in the 1990s has promised to make a “global village” a real possibility, but it has failed to materialise so far. If anything “it is shown that knowledge of other people and countries can cause as much unrest as harmony”.(Adams and McCrindle, 2008, pp 573-4)
Does this mean that in spite of possessing the technological capability, there are likely to be limits on the process of media globalisation in the next decade?
The report should incorporate a discussion of the following aspects:
1. The relationship between technology and social change
2. The imposition of Censorship and freedom of speech.
3. Propaganda and propaganda models
4. The global impact of user generated content
5. Responses to the effects of media imperialism
6. The nature of the global audience.
The word count has been chosen to allow for a reasonable development of your ideas.
Regurgitation of lecture and tutorial material is discouraged as these are designed to provide only the framework for your research and its application within the assignment; the assessment of the main content will depend upon the additional reading and your individual analysis. The tutorials provide an opportunity to exchange opinions and develop your own ideas.
It is not required that each of these topics be covered equally (reflected in respect of a word count) and you are expected to exercise your own judgement in respect of their relative importance in relation to your argument.
The report must contain the following sections: an Abstract, an Introduction, a Methodology section, the main Discussion and Conclusions. The report MUST be correctly referenced using the Harvard System with an accompanying reference list and a separate Bibliography – these two sections do not contribute to the word count.#p#分页标题#e#
